Why We Built SolarTally

Load shedding and rising Eskom tariffs pushed thousands of South African households to consider solar over the past few years — but most people go into that first installer quote with no idea what a fair system size, price, or payback period actually looks like. SolarTally exists to close that gap. Our free solar savings calculator gives you an independent, plain-English estimate before you speak to anyone selling equipment.

What We Do

We build tools and guides, not hardware. The calculator on our home page walks you through your municipality, monthly usage, and roof situation, then estimates a recommended system size, indicative cost, monthly savings and rough payback period — using assumptions we show you, not hide from you. Our blog covers the practical side of going solar in South Africa: what installers should be telling you, how commercial energy users can budget for solar, and how the industry itself is evolving.

Independent, Not Tied to One Installer

SolarTally is not an installation company and doesn't sell hardware. When you're ready to get quotes, we point you to ADEO, our sister directory of vetted South African solar installers, so you can compare real installers rather than relying on the first cold call you get.

Who's Behind This

SolarTally is written and maintained by a small South African team focused on renewable energy and consumer tools. We update our figures and assumptions as tariffs, rebates, and equipment pricing change, so the numbers you see stay realistic rather than stuck in 2023.
